Easy Classic Green Tea Shot Recipe

Green tea shots are always a crowd-pleaser and are so simple to make. With it’s fruity flavor and tangy taste, it is deliciously sweet, but can also pack a punch in it’s small shot glass!

Easy to make and even easier to enjoy, a Jameson green tea shot offers a fresh citrus flavor that is a light and refreshing option. This little green tea shooter is great for a hot summer day by the pool, or if you just want to elevate your cocktail game while keeping things fun and festive!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Whiskey and other bottles of alcohol needed to make green tea shots on a marble table.

Jameson Whiskey- a smooth Irish whiskey that has a slight flavor of vanilla and honey. It’s perfect for the base alcohol of this green teas shot.

Peach Schnapps- this peach liqueur has a fruity sweet syrupy consistency, that is often added to party drinks and summer cocktails.

Sour Mix- a blend of lemon and lime juice, sweetened by simple syrup. This add the tangy flavor to the shot.

Lemon-Lime Soda (like Sprite or 7-Up)- a light lemon-lime fizzy drink that will enhance this shot without overpowering the other flavors.

Ice- This drink is best served cold so be sure to add ice to the shaker!

How to Make a Green Tea Shot

STEP 4. Add a small splash of Sprite on top to give it a fizzy, refreshing finish. Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge. Serve and enjoy!

Tips

  • Chill your shot glasses and ingredients: This drink is even better when it’s cold! Put your whiskey, schnapps, sour mix, and Sprite in the fridge ahead of time so they are nice and chilled. Put your shot glasses in the freezer before mixing too.
  • Don’t Overfill the Glass: If you overfill the shot glass, you won’t have room to add the splash of lemon-lime soda to top off your drink.
  • Make Ahead for Parties: Make this drink ahead of time for a party. Batch mix the whiskey, schnapps, and sour mix, and keep it in the fridge until you are ready to serve. Then add the soda just before serving.
  • Make it Sweeter: If you want a sweeter (or less sweet) shot, adjust your schnapps or sour mix to match your taste.
  • Serve Immediately: Green Tea Shots are best served fresh and cold, so mix and serve right away.

Variations of Green Tea Shots

  • Make it a cocktail: If you love the flavor but want a refreshing summer cocktail, you can simply double the ingredients and then serve it over ice in a mason jar or cocktail glass.
  • Try different whiskeys: While Jameson is part of the traditional green tea shot ingredients, you can experiment with other Irish whiskeys or even bourbon for a different flavor.
  • Make it a mocktail: Make this a non-alcoholic version by substituting the whiskey and the peach schnapps with non-alcoholic peach syrup and cola for a delicious, refreshing shot that everyone can enjoy!
  • Make it a white tea shot-Substitutions: For another fun version of this drink, called a white tea shot, simply swap out the whiskey for vodka.

RECIPE FAQS

Why is it called a Green Tea Shot if it doesn’t have green tea?

The name comes from the light greenish color of the shot, which resembles the color of green tea. Despite the name, there is no actual green tea in the drink!

Jameson Irish Whiskey should be found easily in most grocery stores, and is traditionally used for Green Tea Shots. But you can use any smooth Irish whiskey or experiment with other types like bourbon or scotch for a different flavor.

What can I use if I don’t have sour mix?

You can make your own sour mix by combining equal parts lemon juice, lime juice, and simple syrup.

What can I substitute for lemon-lime soda?

If you don’t have lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7-Up), use club soda with a splash of lemonade or lime juice to get a similar flavor.

How can I make this lower in sugar?

Use diet or sugar-free Sprite or 7-Up, and then use a lower sugar sour mix or make your own with part lime juice, part lemon juice, and simple syrup.
