Oreo Popcorn Recipe
My grandkids love white chocolate popcorn, but with one of America’s favorite snacks added, it makes an incredibly satisfying combo for kids of all ages!
Making this Oreo popcorn recipe is perfect for movie nights, parties, holiday potlucks, or just when you want to a quick snack. It’s ready in less than 10 minutes, and is always a hit!
Wrap some Oreo cookie popcorn in cute bags with a pretty bow, and you’ve got great treats or gifts for friends and family. And it’s so easy to customize with sprinkles, or flavored cookies, making it even more fun to eat!
Ingredients You Will Need
popcorn- about 1 full size bag of popped corn
Oreo cookies- roughly crushed
white chocolate chips- or white chocolate candy melts
How to Make Oreo Popcorn
STEP 1. Pop the popcorn if you haven’t already. (I used the microwave feature to get it done even faster.) Once it’s popped, remove any unpopped popcorn kernels. Then spread it out on a banking sheet lined with parchment paper, and set aside.
STEP 2. Place the cookies in a sealed Ziploc bag and crush with a rolling pin, or use a food processor to crumble the cookies into fine crumbs.
STEP 3. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate, stirring in 30 second intervals until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
STEP 4. Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the popcorn, and then sprinkle the crushed Oreo crumbs over the mixture. Use your hands or a large spatula and quickly toss the ingredients together, coating the popcorn as much as possible. (Add sprinkles in this step if using)
STEP 5. Spread the popcorn on the sheet pan and pack it down, until it cools and the white chocolate hardens. Then break the popcorn into small bites and serve. (For a little extra salty flavor, sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt before serving.)
Tips
- Make large batches for a party: If you need to make several batches, stir the popcorn, melted chocolate, and Oreos in a very large bowl. Once you have everything mixed, you can spread out parchment paper or wax paper, over a tray so it can set, and then make the next batch.
- Add Oreo cookie pieces: Save some larger cookie crumbs to put on top of the popcorn.
- Remove the kernels: Before adding the white chocolate, take a minute to remove unpopped kernels. You don’t want to bite down on those while you are munching on this popcorn.
Variations
- Chocolate Drizzle: Use milk chocolate, almond bark, or dark chocolate in stead of white chocolate, or use any combination of chocolates for extra flavor.
- Add Sprinkles: Customize your Oreo popcorn for holidays or party themes by using fun sprinkles. You can color coordinate for a special event using same colored sprinkle.
- Flavored Popcorn: I would say to use plain or lightly salted, as you don’t want any overpowering flavors to compete with the Oreos. But the choice is up to you to add flavors of popcorn for variety.
- Flavored Oreos: Use a variety of the fun flavors of this cookie to make this recipe even more tasty! Try flavors like red velvet Oreos, peanut butter, or birthday cake flavor!
- Make it Chocolate: Add chocolate chips, colorful candies, or chocolate chunks to the popcorn after it’s cooled, making it more of a snack mix.
