I love making these fun little candy grapes bites. They are perfect for snacking, party appetizers, or just when you want a bite of sweetness! Each bite is a simple grape, coated with Jell-O powder, making them pop with flavors!

Easy Candy Grapes Recipe

Candy grapes can made from either red or green grapes. I personally like the bold color of the red grapes underneath the sugary Jell-O powder coating. Of course, half the fun of making these grapes, is trying the different colors and powder flavors for variety!

The grapes are so easy to make, and every time I’ve serve them, they are gobbled up in minutes! They are so fun to take to parties because they can be made in matching party them or holiday colors.

Ingredients You Will Need

Grapes and powdered gelatin in bowls on a marble table.
  • fresh grapes (green, red, or black – your choice!)
  • flavored gelatin powder-Jell-O, Kool-Aid mix, in your favorite flavors or colors
  • granulated sugar– white sugar makes the water slightly sticky, so the flavored sugar mixture will stick.
  • water- water will help the powder stick to the grapes.
  • Optional: crushed candy- candy like Nerds, Pop Rocks, or even Life Savers are fun flavors to add to this recipe

How to Make Candy Grapes

STEP 1. Rinse the grapes thoroughly.

STEP 2. Fill a large bowl with water and add a tablespoon of sugar. Stir the water and sugar until the sugar dissolves.

STEP 3. Place the washed grapes in the water, and chill in the fridge or freezer for 15-30 minutes.

STEP 4. Place a toothpick in a grape, and then roll the grape in the powder, until it’s completely covered in coating. You can also use a spoon to pour the powder over the chilled grape.

STEP 5. Place the coated grapes on a parchment paper lines baking sheet and place in the fridge for 30-60 minutes, until the powder sets.

Tips for Making Candy Grapes

  • Use Cold Grapes: The powder will stick to the grapes easier if the grapes are cold and wet. The moisture helps the powder stay put.
  • Change the Coatings: You can roll the grapes in powdered sugar, any flavored powdered drink, crushed cookies, crushed candies, or sprinkles.
  • Serve Chilled: Candy Jell-O grapes are best when cold. Keep them in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve them or snack on them.

Variations

  • Combine flavors: Mix flavors and colors for fun, bright, and flavorful grapes. Here are a few of my favorite flavor combinations:
  • Green Apple Grapes: Use green grapes and green apple-flavored Jell-O or Kool-Aid for a tart and sweet combo.
  • Berry Blast: Combine blue raspberry and another berry gelatin powder for a bold, fruity punch.
  • Sour Candy Grapes: If you love sour flavors, use lemon and lime powders together for extra tartness. Lemonade Kool-Aid flavors are VERY sour, depending on how strong you want your flavors, you can try a few packets for variety.

FAQ’S

What kind of grapes work best?

Both green and red seedless grapes work well. Cotton candy grapes are naturally sweet, so they may be a little too sweet after rolling them in the powder.

Can I make candy grapes sugar-free?

You can use sugar-free powder, but the flavor isn’t the same. The grapes may be a little bit sweeter using sugar free Kool-Aid or Jell-O.

How do I store candy grapes?

Candy grapes are best fresh. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Over time, the coating may lose its crunch. Don’t freeze the grapes, as this may take away their crunch too.
