Easy Chicken Salad with Grapes Recipe

With tender rotisserie chicken, crisp vegetables, juicy grapes, and a creamy dressing, this chicken salad recipe can be a simple side dish, or add it to your favorite bread or rolls for a dinner that is full of flavor.

You can bake the chicken for this salad, but I’m all about saving time in the kitchen, so I use rotisserie chicken. It’s really just a matter of simply mixing all of the ingredients together, and then letting it chill in the fridge. All of the flavors work with each other to make a crisp and creamy chicken salad.

Ingredients You Will Need

Ingredients needed to make chicken salad, measured into small bowls on a marble table.
  • cooked rotisserie chicken: The star of the salad, and a time saver!
  • chopped celery: Adds crunch and freshness to the salad.
  • red seedless grapes, halved: Adds sweetness, while also adding color to the chicken salad. Can also use green grapes or if you’re feeling adventurous, a combination of both.
  • diced red onion: Adds just a touch of savory to the overall flavor.
  • diced cucumber: Gives the salad an extra crunch.
  • walnuts: Adds a nutty crunch.
  • mayonnaise: Combines the ingredients together and adds flavor.
  • Greek yogurt: Lightens the dressing while adding tang.
  • chopped green onions: Adds a mild onion flavor.
  • chopped parsley: Brightens up the dish with a light herb taste without overpowering the other flavors.
  • Dijon mustard: Adds a hint of tang and spice.
  • dried dill: For a subtle tart flavor, just a pinch of dill is all you  need.
  • coarse kosher salt: Naturally enhances the other flavors of the salad.
  • ground black pepper: Adds just a touch of warmth and helps enhance the other flavors.

Chicken Salad Variations

  • Change up the Nuts: Use chopped pecans, sunflower seeds, or almonds for a different crunchy flavor.
  • Add dried fruits: Dried cranberries are one of my favorite additions to any salad. Cranberries can add a festive touch during the holidays too.
  • Add your favorites: Chop an apple or even a pear into small bites and and to the salad.

Tips for Making the Best Chicken Salad with Grapes

  • Use rotisserie chicken: It saves time and adds flavor depth. If you do want to cook the chicken, cook 1-2 chicken breasts and then chop or shred to add to the recipe.
  • Chill before serving: Letting the salad rest in the refrigerator helps the flavors combine.
  • Cut into Bites: Shred or cut the chicken, grapes, and other ingredients into small bites so if making wraps or a sandwich, it is easier to eat.
  • Lemon Juice: If using fruits like apples or pears, toss them with a splash of fresh lemon juice while cutting to prevent browning.
