Variations

Add a sweet surprise: Fill the Bugles with a tiny bit of peanut butter or frosting before dipping.
Go festive: Use different colors for other holidays like pastels for Easter or orange and purple for Halloween.

How to Make Bugle Elf Hats

Melted green candy melts in a square dish, with a corn chip bugle being dipped in the center.
  1. Place the green melting chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth and fully melted.
Dip each Bugle into the melted green candy, coating it completely. Use a fork to lift the Bugle and gently tap off excess. Transfer coated Bugles to a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them cool until the coating hardens.
Green coated bugles, dried on parchment paper, then lined with a stripe of yellow and small dot of red melts to look like an elf hat.
  1. Melt the yellow candy melts in the same way. Transfer to a piping bag and pipe a thin line along the bottom edge of each hat. Return to the baking sheet with parchment to set. Melt the red candy melts, transfer to a piping bag, and pipe a small feather on the side of each hat. Allow red and yellow decorations to cool and harden before serving.

Use parchment paper: It prevents sticking and makes cleanup easy.
Work quickly: Candy melts set fast, so have everything ready.
Add sparkle: Sprinkle sanding sugar or edible glitter while still wet.
