I’ve made this American flag fruit pizza so many times for Fourth of July parties, and it always disappears fast. It’s especially great because you can bake and decorate it in under 30 minutes using store bought ingredients, and it’s easy to prep ahead.

This easy fruit pizza is perfect for patriotic celebrations, BBQs, and family cookouts. With a sugar cookie crust, fluffy white frosting, and red and blue berries, it’s a colorful treat that’s always a hit on the dessert table. It’s festive, fun, and comes together with just a few simple ingredients.

This cookie pizza pairs perfectly with other party favorites like these Red, White, and Blue Strawberries or a fresh Berry Caprese Salad. For a mix of sweet and savory, try adding Smoked Jalapeno Poppers or Patriotic Pretzel Rods to your spread.

Ingredients You Will Need

Cookie dough, frosting, and berries, on a baking sheet.
  • Refrigerated sugar cookie dough- Rolled out and baked into a soft, golden crust that acts as the “pizza base.”
  • Premade white frosting- A tub of vanilla or cream cheese frosting makes this recipe fast and easy.
  • Fresh Strawberries- Washed, hulled, and sliced to create the red stripes on the flag.
  • Fresh Blueberries- Rinsed and dried for the star section in the top corner.

Optional: Add sliced bananas in between rows of strawberries instead of additional frosting.

A full list of ingredients is included in the recipe card below.

Recipe Variations

  • Use different berries- Raspberries, cherries, or even red grapes can stand in for strawberries. Try blackberries if you want more contrast with the white frosting.
  • Mini flag pizzas- Bake individual sugar cookies and decorate each one with berries like mini flag bites—great for kids or single servings.
  • Use candy- Use red, white, and blue M&M’s or sprinkles instead of fruit for a more shelf-stable treat.
  • Homemade frosting or dough- If you have the time, use your favorite cream cheese frosting or make this 3 ingredient sugar cookie dough for a more personal touch.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Roll the sugar cookie dough onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet and shape it into a large rectangle. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the top of the cookie begins to turn golden brown. Remove from oven and let it cool completely.

  1. While the cookie base cools, wash and prepare the fruit. Pat the strawberries and blueberries dry with a paper towel to prevent soggy frosting. Once the cookie has cooled, spread a thick, even layer of frosting over the entire surface.

Expert Tips

  • Cool the cookie completely: If the cookie base is warm, the frosting will melt and won’t hold the fruit in place.
  • Dry your fruit: Excess moisture from rinsed berries can make the frosting runny. Blot them dry to keep the design clean.
  • Use a piping bag: For precise, neat white stripes, use a piping bag or plastic baggie with a snipped corner.
  • Prep ahead: Bake the cookie base a day in advance. Decorate it the morning of your event to save time and keep the berries fresh.
  • Add Toppings: If you want an extra touch, add crushed graham crackers, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, patriotic sprinkles, or edible glitter for festive sparkle.
  • Serve cold: Fruit flag pizza tastes best slightly chilled and holds its shape better for serving.

Fruit Flag Pizza FAQs

Can I make this dessert the night before?

Yes. You can bake the crust the night before and store it in an airtight container. Decorate the fruit and frosting the next day for the best presentation.

How do I keep the fruit from making the frosting run?

Pat all fruit dry with paper towels before adding it to the pizza, and avoid slicing fruit too far in advance. Assemble a few hours before serving and refrigerate until ready to eat.

What other desserts go well with fruit pizza?

Try pairing it with other festive recipes like Pink Hydrangea Cupcakes or a batch of fruit skewers for a fun holiday menu that’s kid-friendly and easy to make.

Can I make my own frosting?

You can make your own frosting with this simple recipe:
Ingredients:
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract – for added flavor (you can even make your own homemade vanilla if you have time!)

Directions:
In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Slowly mix in the powdered sugar until fully combined. Add the vanilla extract and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy.
