Dip Recipe Variations

  • Chunkier dip: Add a little extra crumbled cheese if you prefer larger chunks of cheese throughout the dip.
  • Extra creamy texture: Mash part of the blue cheese into the sour cream mixture before folding in the remaining crumbles.
  • Milder flavor: Use a milder blue cheese like Gorgonzola if you prefer a less intense blue cheese flavor.
  • Herb version: Stir in a small amount of chopped chives or parsley for added freshness and color.

Expert Tips

  • Let the dip chill before serving: Allowing the dip to rest in the refrigerator helps the flavors develop and improves the texture.
  • Use good quality cheese: A high quality blue cheese such as Roquefort, Stilton, or Gorgonzola will give the best flavor.
  • Adjust the consistency: If the dip is thicker than you prefer, a small splash of milk or buttermilk can thin it slightly.
  • Customize the flavor: Some restaurant style dips include a small splash of Worcestershire sauce or a pinch of white pepper for additional depth of flavor.

What to Serve with Blue Cheese Dip

This dip is most commonly served with buffalo chicken wings, but it is also perfect for fresh raw vegetables like celery sticks, carrot sticks, cucumber slices, and bell pepper strips. It also works well with potato wedges, fried pickles, or pretzels when serving a party platter.
