What Does Oreo Mug Cake Taste Like?

This mug cake tastes like a warm chocolate cake with plenty of Oreo flavor. The center stays soft and tender while the top becomes light and cake-like. It’s delicious on its own, but even better topped with whipped cream, ice cream, or extra crushed Oreos.

Ingredients You Will Need

Oreos, milk, and baking powder measured out on the marble table.
  • Oreo cookies: Oreo cookies provide the chocolate base for this mug cake.
  • milk: Whole milk, 2% or 1%. ( I have made this recipe with as low as 1% milk, and it works just fine.)
  • teaspoon baking powder: Baking powder is the necessary ingredient to make the cake fluffy while it cooks.

For a full list of ingredients and measurements, see the recipe card below.

Variations

  • Use Golden Oreos: Swap regular Oreos for Golden Oreos for a vanilla flavored version.
  • Add Chocolate Chips: Mix a tablespoon of chocolate chips into the batter before microwaving.
  • Top with Ice Cream: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent dessert.
  • Try Peanut Butter: Add a spoonful of peanut butter to the center before cooking.
  • Make It Minty: Use Mint Oreos for a refreshing twist.
  • Add Toppings: Although this cake is delicious by itself, but you can top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Top with a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, chocolate or caramel sauce, or even crush a few cookies and top with Oreo crumbs.

How to Make Oreo Mug Cake in the Microwave

Crushed oreos, mixed with milk in a white coffee mug.
  1. Crumble the cookies into a microwave-safe mug. It’s not necessary for them to be broken down to fine crumbs. Pour the milk over the cookies in the coffee mug, and use a fork to stir milk and cookies together, until the Oreos have dissolved into the milk.

  1. Add the baking powder to the mug, and stir into the mixture. Place the mug in the microwave, and microwave on high for 1- 1 1/2 minutes. Add 15 seconds to the cooking time if necessary.

Tips

  • Make it thicker: For a thicker cake, add 1 tablespoon of all purpose flour and 1 tablespoon granulated sugar before microwaving.
  • Cooking time: I tested this recipe several times and found that microwave time makes a big difference. In my microwave, 60 to 75 seconds produced the best texture. Any longer and the cake became slightly rubbery.
  • Crush the cookies: I also found that crushing the Oreos into very fine crumbs helped create a smoother batter and a more even cake.
