What Is Peach Dump Cake?

Peach Dump Cake is a simple dessert made by layering peaches, dry cake mix, and butter in a baking dish. As it bakes, the peaches become bubbly and sweet, while the cake mix transforms into a buttery, golden topping. Unlike traditional cobbler, there’s no batter to mix and no complicated steps.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Only a few simple ingredients
  • No mixing bowls required
  • Perfect for feeding a crowd
  • Great for BBQs, potlucks, and family gatherings
  • Tastes like peach cobbler with a buttery cake topping
  • Easy enough for beginner bakers

What Does Peach Dump Cake Taste Like?

Peach Dump Cake tastes like a cross between peach cobbler and buttery cake. The peaches become soft, sweet, and syrupy while the topping bakes into a golden layer with crisp edges and a soft center. Every bite is warm, comforting, and even better when served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Variations

  • Add Pecans: Sprinkle 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts over the top before baking.
  • Use White Cake Mix: White cake mix creates a lighter vanilla flavor that pairs perfectly with peaches.
  • Add Brown Sugar: A few tablespoons of brown sugar add a rich caramel flavor.
  • Try Fresh Peaches: Fresh peaches can be used when they’re in season for even more peach flavor.

  1. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling around the edges.

Allow the dump cake to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Tips For The Best Peach Dump Cake

  • Don’t Stir The Layers: The layers should remain separate. The peaches, cake mix, and butter work together while baking to create the perfect texture.
  • Use Peaches In Heavy Syrup: The syrup helps create a moist, flavorful filling and prevents dry spots.
  • Cover The Cake Mix With Butter: The more evenly the butter is distributed, the more evenly the topping will brown.

What’s The Difference Between Peach Dump Cake And Peach Cobbler?

While both desserts feature sweet peaches and a baked topping, they are made differently. Peach cobbler typically uses a homemade batter, biscuit topping, or pie-like crust. This peach dump cake uses dry cake mix and butter, making it much quicker and easier to prepare.

When Should You Serve Peach Dump Cake?

This family favorite is perfect for any time you need a quick dessert. But it’s so easy to make, you can also serve it at:

  • Backyard BBQs
  • Family reunions
  • Church potlucks
  • Graduation parties
  • Pool parties
  • Cookouts
  • Holiday gatherings

Because it serves a crowd and comes together with minimal effort, it’s one of my favorite desserts when entertaining.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Fresh Peaches?

Yes. Use about 6 cups peeled and sliced peaches. You may need to add a little sugar and liquid since canned peaches already contain syrup.

Can I Use Frozen Peaches?

Yes. Allow them to thaw first and drain any excess liquid before using.

Why Is My Peach Dump Cake Powdery?

This usually happens when the butter doesn’t fully cover the cake mix. Be sure to drizzle the melted butter more evenly across the top before baking.

Can I Make Peach Dump Cake Ahead Of Time?

Yes. You can bake it earlier in the day and reheat it before serving.

How Do I Store Leftover Peach Dump Cake?

Cover leftover peach dump cake in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Can I Freeze Peach Dump Cake?

Yes. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.

Can I Use Peach Pie Filling Instead of Canned Peaches?

Yes, but I prefer using canned peaches in heavy syrup for a traditional Peach Dump Cake. The syrup helps create the perfect cobbler-like texture while allowing the natural peach flavor to shine. Peach pie filling can also be used if you prefer a thicker, sweeter filling, but it will create a dessert that tastes more like peach pie than classic peach cobbler.

Notes

Don’t Stir The Layers: The layers should remain separate. The peaches, cake mix, and butter work together while baking to create the perfect texture.
Use Peaches In Heavy Syrup: The syrup helps create a moist, flavorful filling and prevents dry spots.
Cover The Cake Mix With Butter: The more evenly the butter is distributed, the more evenly the topping will brown.
Add More Peaches: Many peach dump cake recipes call for 2 cans of peaches, but I found the cake tasted much better with 3 cans. The extra peaches create a softer, juicier filling and ensure every bite is packed with peach flavor.
